FLIGHT LESSON 16: LOCALIZER HOLDING

Objective: To introduce the pilot to localizer holding procedures and use of autopilot for holding (if equipped). Additionally, the pilot will increase proficiency in holding pattern procedures through the practice of VOR and GPS holding.

Completion Standards

The lesson will have been successfully completed when the pilot can demonstrate an understanding of localizer holding procedures. Additionally, the pilot will demonstrate greater proficiency in holding pattern entry procedures and VOR and GPS holding procedures. The pilot will be able to maintain the desired altitude, ±100 ft.; airspeed, ±10 kt.; and heading, ±10°; and to track a selected course or radial.
