FLIGHT LESSON 20: LOCALIZER INSTRUMENT APPROACH

Objective: To introduce the pilot to localizer instrument approach procedures. Additionally, the pilot will increase proficiency in VOR and GPS approaches.

Completion Standards

The lesson will have been successfully completed when the pilot can demonstrate knowledge in localizer instrument approach procedures. The pilot will be able to maintain the desired airspeed, ±10 kt.; heading, ±10°; and GPS CDI with no more than a 3/4-scale deflection. Prior to beginning the final approach segment, the pilot will maintain altitude, ±100 ft., and, while on the final approach segment, descend and maintain the MDA, +100/–50 ft. Additionally, the pilot will display proficiency in recovery from unusual flight attitudes.
