Aviation Flight Academy™
Commercial Pilot Program
Part 141 and 61 Programs
The table below and on the following pages lists the sequence of the flight and ground lessons and the minimum time for each lesson. The times listed are for instructor/student guidance only and are not meant to be mandatory times. These times will ensure that the minimum time requirements for aeronautical knowledge and flight training are in compliance with Part 141, Appendix D, Commercial Pilot Certification Course. See the notes following the table for additional Part 61 training requirements.
The major difference between a Part 141 and a Part 61 flight school is the minimum amount of flight time required to obtain a commercial pilot certificate. A Part 141 flight school can take a pilot through its private pilot, instrument rating, and commercial pilot courses in a minimum of 190 hr. compared to 250 hr. under Part 61. Additionally, Part 61 requires 100 hr. of pilot in command (PIC) and 50 hours of cross-country time.
Each training flight must include a preflight briefing and a postflight critique of the pilot’s performance by the instructor.
Part 61 requires 250 total logged hours, **50 hours of total PIC cross country time
NOTE: Any flight lesson in this training syllabus may be conducted in a complex airplace at the discretion of the flight instructor and/or chief flight instructor, as appropriate. We have indictated the minimum number of lessons that must be completed in a complex airplane. This syllabus does not require solo operations in a complex airplane, but solo lessons may also be conducted in a complex airplane at the discretion of the flight instructor and/or chief pilot instructor, as appropriate
